HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN HERE?

I keep getting asked how long have I lived Japan, yet each time I hesitate and answer vaguely something along the lines of,
"4 years? 4 and a half years maybe?"
When I am speaking to Japanese that I meet for the first time I usually get a concerned look when I looked puzzled for a moment standing in silence. It is then I usually spit out my vague response before they assume my silence means I do not understand the language.
But as Facebook has so kindly reminded my poor memory, it has been over 5 years since I have first came to Japan.
That is a damn long time now that I think if it.
Of course since that first time I have been back to Australia a couple of times. The longest duration being about 1 year after my Working Holiday (1.5 yrs) expired.
I spent 1 year in Australia working, scrubbing dunnies (trans.toilets) for tuition money for Hokkaido University which I still had no idea I could apply for (since graduating high school is so important apparently) and which I had no idea I would be accepted for until over 8 months later.
That period was a test of endurance.
Yet it's been a long and fast... 5.5 years since I first came to Japan?
I wonder how long I will remain here. I have just 1 year left of university credits to take (However I have technically 2 years left of university...)
When I am asked,
"Will you go back to Australia after graduation?"
I say, "No."
Which usually follows with the surprised question, "you want to work in Japan?"
"First I want to go see the rest of the world."
--- Due to technical difficulties filming has been placed on hold (dropping Leica Lenses in the snow is not wise guys). However a possible filming crew has been recruited and planning will be held in Golden Week.
Just have to kill the savings to buy another lens.
Cosmic punishment for not getting on the ball and rolling quicker.
Let me know if there is anything you would love to know about Japan/living in Japan as content for videos!
